A debut novel from award-winning short story writer Annabel Lyon, a novella from Greek author Nikos Papandreou, a debut collection of poems from Meaghan Strimas, and a new novel by award-winning screenwriter and playwright Ian Weir.

Annabel Lyon

Annabel Lyon has published two award-nominated short story collections: Oxygen and The Best Thing for You. She lives in New Westminster, B.C.. The Golden Mean, Lyon’s much anticipated debut novel, is a vivid imagining of the friendship between the philosopher Aristotle and the young Alexander the Great. Told from the frank point-of-view of Aristotle himself, The Golden Mean reveals how Aristotle’s genius influenced the boy who would conquer the known world. The novel is currently shortlisted for the Rogers Writers' Trust Governor General's Literary Award and and Scotiabank Giller Prizes.

Nikos Papandreou

Nikos Papandreou (Greece/USA) was born in Berkeley, California, went to high school in Canada, studied economics and political science at Yale, and earned a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton. After Greek military service and a few years at the World Bank, he quit the world of economics and received an MFA in creative writing. He is the author of seven books, mostly in Greek, and numerous published essays, articles and short stories. Papandreou presents his novella How I Saved the World, about a World Bank economist in Algeria who tries to save the day – and himself.

Meaghan Strimas

Meaghan Strimas lives in Toronto, where she works at Quill & Quire magazine and for the University of Guelph's Creative Writing MFA programme. She is the editor of The Selected Gwendolyn MacEwen and the author of one previous collection of poetry, Junkman's Daughter. Strimas presents A Good Time Had By All, a poetry collection brimming with the intrigues of singular characters and uncommon insights into the complexity of human nature.

Ian Weir

Ian Weir is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright and novelist. He is the writer and executive producer of the acclaimed crime thriller Dragon Boys and the creator and executive producer of long-running CBC teen drama Edgemont. His new novel, Daniel O’Thunder – a rollicking, comic and ultimately haunting tale of fist-fighting, faith and fine madness – interweaves the voices of several narrators to tell the story of a troubled but charismatic prize-fighting evangelist in 1850s London, England, who challenges none other than the Devil to do battle in the ring.
