IFOA Calendar of Events
Edinburgh World Writers' Conference: Toronto
The International Festival of Authors, in partnership with the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the British Council, brings to the stage a unique series of events that will gather writers together around the world to create an historic picture of the role of literature today.
What began as part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival this past summer continues to grow here in Toronto. Taking place this past August, authors gathered in Edinburgh to discuss the five topics that almost brought writers to blows during the infamous Writers’ Conference of 1962. These topics will be discussed throughout this year’s IFOA as well and they include:
• Should Literature be Political?
• Style vs. Content
• National Literature
• Censorship Today
• The Future of the Novel
Between August 2012 and August 2013 the Edinburgh World Writers' Conference will visit 14 countries, giving writers and readers in different countries the chance to add their voice to the growing debate about writing and its relationship to contemporary life.
