With the JUNO Awards heading back to Toronto for the 2011 ceremony, IFOA helps honour Canadian music and its talent with the launch of Music from Far and Wide: Celebrating 40 Years of the JUNO Awards.

Featuring co-authors Karen Bliss, Nick Krewen and Jason Schneider, with special guests Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, renowned singer-songwriter Dan Hill and musician Emm Gryner. Hosted and moderated by the CBC’s Jian Ghomeshi.

Presented in partnership with Key Porter Books, The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and MusiCounts.

This event is part of CBC Live, where Canada’s national broadcaster, the CBC, lends members of its radio and television team to host, moderate or interview at Festival events.

Karen Bliss

Karen Bliss is an established music journalist whose work has appeared in print and online for RollingStone.com, MSN, AOL, Elle Canada, Billboard, Toronto Star, and dozens of other publications. Along the way, she has interviewed Kurt Cobain, Shania Twain, Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Jimmy Page, Avril Lavigne, Lenny Kravitz, Britney Spears, and thousands more. She also operates her own online magazine, Samaritanmag.com, and has just released an animated, anti-racism PSA, The Girl With Pinhead Parents, on YouTube, voiced by Nelly Furtado, Chris Bosh and others, based on her kids picture book of the same name. She is also creator of the Fan Lowdown book series, which launched with the multi-platinum-selling rock band Hedley. Bliss is co-author of Music from Far and Wide: Celebrating 40 Years of the Juno Awards.

Nick Krewen

The editor of CARAS’ 2006, 2007 and 2009 JUNO Awards souvenir print programmes and an editorial contributor since 1999, Nick Krewen covered music for the Hamilton Spectator from 1983 to 1997. A frequent contributor to the Toronto Star, Words & Music and Grammy.com, and a former associate editor of Country Music, he has written for Saturday Night, Chatelaine, Maclean’s, Billboard, and numerous extinct Canadian music-industry trade publications. Krewen is co-author of Music from Far and Wide: Celebrating 40 Years of the Juno Awards.

Jason Schneider

Jason Schneider is the author of Whispering Pines: The Northern Roots of American Music... From Hank Snow to The Band, and co-author of Have Not Been The Same: The CanRock Renaissance. His other books are the novel 3,000 Miles and the novella Philip Snowcroft’s Finality. He is the roots music editor at Exclaim! Magazine and the creator of the blog heartbreaktrail.wordpress.com. Schneider is co-author of Music from Far and Wide: Celebrating 40 Years of the Juno Awards.
